We started with a fundraiser in Kansas City at the American Royal BBQ cook-off to raise money for my Crescent Moon Foundation. We teamed up with Sports Radio 810, for our inaugural event in Kansas City, to sell raffle tickets and auction off priceless experiences to benefit our scholarship fund.
The next morning I was the Grand Marshal in the American Royal parade where I rode alongside other Kansas City celebrities and visited the fans from my playing days with the Chiefs.
I flew back to Seattle the next morning to get ready for our game against the Lions on Monday Night Football. Earlier in the day, I hosted two auction winners from “Seahawk Experiences” I donated to the Unstoppable Foundation Gala and Fashion First auctions. I had brunch with them before the game, toured the sidelines, and hosted them at halftime in the broadcast booth. We picked up our second win of the season 13-10 with an exciting finish and most importantly my guests had a great time.
The following Monday I headed down to the Sports 1 office for the week, highlighted by the USC vs. University of Washington game on Thursday Night. We visited some tailgates and watched the game from the sidelines. Carrying the winning spirit with me from Seattle, we really got after USC and secured a road win for our young football team.
I was then on to Cincinnati to meet up with the Seahawks for our game against the undefeated Bengals. It was a good game but we ended up blowing a fourth quarter lead; they came back and beat us 27-24. Needless to say it was a long and quiet plane ride home as it was our fourth blown lead in our first six games.
The following Wednesday I traveled to Dallas to meet David for a corporate dinner with our partner L’Oréal. They invited their top customers, including dermatologist and physicians, and we brought along local Dallas celebrities including Ed “Too Tall “ Jones, Larry Centers, and Everson Walls. It was great to meet the guests and highlight the relationship we’ve developed, along with their continued support of the Crescent Moon Foundation.
From Dallas I went to Minneapolis for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Salute To The Heroes tour as the featured Hall of Fame player. The Hall of Fame does a great job bringing memorabilia and artifacts with them to get the engage the kids engaged and I also got a chance to connect with old fans.
I was then on a plane back to Seattle for our game against the Carolina Panthers. We’ve had a lot of close games against them in recent years, yet we always found a way to win. This time however, they had a late drive led by Cam Newton and beat us with 26 seconds left. All too familiar, we had our fifth blown lead late in the 4th quarter.
After the loss to the Panthers, we had a quick turnaround on a short week and flew to San Francisco for our Thursday night game against our division rivals. We dominated the Niners in primetime and won the game 20-3.
Since we played on Thursday I had the weekend free and was able to see my son play soccer and watch a lot of college and pro football, something I’m not normally able to do.
The last week of the month, I was back down in the Sports 1 office for meetings and appearances. An employee of mine introduced me to Patrick O’Brien, the star quarterback from local San Juan Hills High School. I met with Patrick and helped answer his questions as he transitions from high school to the University of Nebraska next fall, where he is committed to play. I get a kick out of mentoring the young guys and giving them as much advice as I possibly can.
I also met with Dedan Brozino, executive director of the Rose Bowl Stadium, which David and I now sit on the board of. We had a meeting to discuss the future of the Rose Bowl Foundation and how we can become more involved with their growth.
On Halloween, to end the month, I had an appearance for the grand opening of the DICK’S Sporting Goods store in Cerritos. DICK’S is a company we have a growing relationship with, not only with my brand but with the Crescent Moon Foundation as well.
After my appearance at DICK’S I co-hosted our new Pro Football Hall of Fame Network radio show on Sirius radio with Howard Halzer. The show is co-hosted by a different gold jacket every week and airs Saturday from 2-4pm EST on channel 88.
As you can see October was a very busy month, especially with the football season heating up at the midway point. I’m really looking forward to November as it’s my birthday month and I get to spend time with friends from all over the country.
