Letter From The President

This month started off just how last month ended.  After the Halloween appearance at Dick’s Sporting Goods, I jumped on a plane that afternoon and flew to Dallas to meet the Seahawks in Arlington for the game against the Cowboys.  Prior to the game I appeared at GameDay Sports to sign autographs for all the Cowboys and Seahawks fans in attendance. David Meltzer

The Seahawks and Cowboys match-up was a big game with both teams looking for a win after coming off tough losses.  It was a hard fought battle, however the Seahawks prevailed and ultimately won 13-12.

With the Seahawks entering their bye week I had some time available to learn more about the concussion issues that many former players, including many of my former colleagues, are facing today.  With the settlement nearing finalization, players who have any questions should please call David or myself, we want to assist any and all players and are happy to help however way we can.

That Wednesday I traveled to Miami for a little R&R to celebrate one of my best friend’s bachelor parties.  Ten of us total headed to the Sunshine State for some fun, relaxation and good food.  As a foodie, the most notable dinner of the week was at The Bazaar, where the chef ordered for us all night with his recommendations and custom plates, which I highly recommend to anyone who eats there.

Back in Saturday the following weekend, David and myself had a meet and greet at the ROAD Apparel store in downtown Seattle.  We signed copies of David’s best-selling book “Connected to Goodness” and enjoyed dinner afterwards with their top customers and clients.

Our game that week was Sunday night against our divisional foe the Arizona Cardinals.  We were looking to make up ground in the division to keep our playoff hopes alive, however the Cardinals made the bigger plays late in the game and held us off to win 39-32.

The following Tuesday I visited Wesley Homes, an assisted living senior citizens home in Des Moines, WA. Since the majority of their 400 residents are UW Alumni, I spoke with them about my playing days, answered questions and discussed the current season.  I’m always grateful for the diverse group of people I get to meet and speak with, especially those associated with the University of Washington.

I then flew down to Irvine and met with our good friend Afam Onyema from the GEANCO foundation to discuss upcoming medical missions to Nigeria since I’d like to join next year and see first-hand the good work they are doing.  We will be teaming up with GEANCO on upcoming local events to assist them in their fundraising efforts and our Crescent Moon Foundation will also be making a donation to GEANCO.

The following day I went up to Los Angeles for media appearances.  I began the day with a few segments on The Rich Eisen Show to discuss current topics around the league, mainly focusing on young quarterbacks who are experiencing inconsistent success.

From there I went to Mira Costa High School in Hermosa Beach to meet with the production team from BuzzFeed.  They approached me to film an “armchair quarterback” segment to show average joe’s it’s not as easy as it seems to catch an NFL pass.  It was a lot of fun, I had a great time doing it and more importantly no one got hurt.  The video will be available this week on BuzzFeed.

Since November is my birthday month, I had small celebrations throughout the country as I traveled for games and appearances.  However, the weekend before Thanksgiving I had my big celebration in Las Vegas with all my good friends and enjoyed good dinners at STK and Carnevino.

It was back to Seattle on Sunday for a match-up against our division rival the Niners.  We beat them 23-6 and Thomas Rawls had another huge game in only his second career start, gaining over 200 yards rushing.

The day before Thanksgiving, I spoke with the University of Washington football team as they prepared for the 108th Apple Cup against Washington State.  I emphasized the significance of beating our rival Washington State and what it means to the program, to Husky nation, and most importantly to have the bragging rights for the next 12 months.

Thanksgiving itself was a great day with family and friends as my two daughters were in town with my grandsons.  We cooked a feast and watched a lot of football, ending the day with my son at Apple Cup watching the Huskies dismantle Washington State.  I don’t know how effective my speech was but we ended up wining 45-10 against arguably WSU’s best team in the past 10 years.

As Sunday rolled around, it was time for the Seahawks to face a great challenge against the Steelers.  We continued on the right track winning a shoot out 39-30 behind Russell Wilson’s impressive performance throwing for five touchdowns on his birthday, joining me as the only other quarterback to do so.

Keeping the winning weekend alive, my former CFL team the Edmonton Eskimos won the 103rd Grey Cup defeating Ottawa 26-20.  Congratulations to Edmonton for another well-deserved championship.

November was another action packed month highlighted by my birthday, which has become more special as I get older.  It also foreshadows my favorite time of the year, Christmas season.  I look forward to speaking with you all again in a month to discuss the great things that happened in December and preview the NFL playoffs.

Happy Holidays,

Warren Moon
